BC Proposes Changes to Provincial Labour Laws, Workers Compensation Act

Labour Minister Harry Bains recently tabled Bill 23, a proposal to amend the Workers Compensation Act which would provide WorkSafeBC with more power to authorize treatments, and increase the amount of compensation that a worker can receive, while raising the maximum annual salary amount on which workers' compensation benefits are based.

Last week 20+ business associations including the BC Chamber of Commerce, with support from the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce, sent a letter to the Minister expressing our concerns regarding these changes.

Now, more than ever, the business community needs government to “do no harm” when it comes to regulations and costs. Critical advocacy efforts are taking place to ensure that these changes do not pose undue financial stress on employers as they continue to deal with reopening challenges, changes to their operations, staffing, and more.
