Crime Prevention in our Community

The Langley RCMP is dedicated to protecting the citizens of the Langleys through the prevention and reduction of crime in partnership with the community. The ultimate goal of any police service is to make homes and neighbourhoods safe.

The Langley RCMP Detachment is certainly committed to this goal. Today, more than ever, crime has become increasingly complex and multi-jurisdictional in nature. In order to maximize effectiveness, the Langley RCMP provides an integrated police service in partnership with other police agencies and community partners. Our members understand that we must use our resources in a strategic manner so that the most pressing issues in our community are addressed. Policing priorities for the Langleys include property crime, drugs, youth prevention and education, traffic, and police visibility/partnerships. The detachment is fully engaged in a crime reduction strategy that targets repeat offenders, crime hot spots and crime drivers.

Reducing crime is not simply a police problem, but rather a community one. In order to achieve any measure of success that includes long-term, sustainable results, the police, citizens, community agencies, local businesses, local government, neighbouring police services and the courts need to work together. In addition to our regular members and staff, the Langley RCMP Detachment is complemented by a tremendous group of volunteers in a multitude of programs.

RCMP Safe Place Program

Displaying the RCMP SAFE PLACE symbol at your premise carries some important responsibilities that will greatly assist in protecting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) victims of crime.

These LGBTQ victims will recognize the RCMP SAFE PLACE symbol of safety that indicates your business, organization, school or premise is willing to assist and to protect these victims. To make this concept effective the RCMP would like you to instruct your staff, employees, supervisors, managers, teachers, volunteers, counselors and/or students, etc. of the following protocol:

  • Please apply the RCMP SAFE PLACE decal outside the front entrance of your establishment, building, room, etc. (approx. 3-5 feet high, if possible). If there is no glass at your front entrance, the RCMP SAFE PLACE poster can be placed conspicuously inside your premise.
  • Please allow these victims to enter and remain at your premise until the police arrive
  • Please either call, or assist these victims in calling 911.
  • Contact your RCMP/LGBTQ Detachment Liaison Officer
