Creating Certainty in an Uncertain Environment
Navigating through and beyond the pandemic

As British Columbia has navigated the pandemic over the past 18 months, businesses in every region of the province have been negatively impacted, particularly those in the tourism and hospitality sectors. It has taken both an emotional and financial toll on businesses and their employees, with some owners having incurred significant debt to keep operating – debt that will take years to repay.

We are now at a critical juncture. Businesses need certainty and predictability to thrive, especially at a time when they need to keep employees, customers, and patrons safe, rebuild consumer confidence and rebuild business. The question is – how do we create certainty in an uncertain environment?

In this presentation, Fiona Famulak, President and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce, will share details of the impact of the pandemic on the provincial and regional business communities, and her thoughts on what’s needed to create certainty for businesses so that they recover and thrive in an economy that is more inclusive, innovative and competitive than before the pandemic was declared.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS:
    • Receive key data that tells the story of the impact of the pandemic on the provincial and regional business communities.
    • Learn about the key priorities that governments need to focus on to create certainty for businesses.
    • Gain an understanding of how they, as British Columbians and business owners, can contribute to creating a more certain business environment.

    ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:

Fiona Famulak is passionate about business and has over 30 years international experience, gained in Europe, Asia Pacific and Canada, working in the private and not-for-profit sectors.

As a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Fiona’s core expertise lies in being able to critically assess a business from a financial and risk management perspective, which allows her to then set up the organizational infrastructure necessary to help it enhance its future success. However, as an ambitious and accomplished executive, her passion lies in connecting with people and building communities around meaningful conversations that catalyze positive change.

Guided by the core value of being of service to others and attaching a high premium to the importance of fairness and courage in words and actions, Fiona brings a variety of perspectives to her role at the BC Chamber of Commerce. As a seasoned not-for-profit executive, she understands the pressure facing associations to support their members in ways that respond effectively to their needs. As a former small business owner, she understands the importance of having a clear vision, customer-centric plan and nimbleness with which to respond to changing market conditions. And as an experienced board member, she understands the critical importance of good governance.

Fiona works collaboratively with the team, Board of Directors, member Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade, partners and governments to define and deliver economic recovery solutions that help build a business community in British Columbia that is competitive, innovative and inclusive.
