MARCH 2010 PRESIDENT'S REPORT
The February Meeting of the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce featured Langley City Mayor Peter Fassbender and Township Mayor Rick Green presenting their annual update. This meeting was attended by 180 members despite the fact that I would like to express our congratulations to Mayor and Council of both the City and the The Chamber Development Committee met with a focus group for a round-table discussion as to how the Chamber should move forward into the future. There was much input from participants that the Committee will now examine and make recommendations for implementation. It is that time of year once again for the Chamber to consider resolutions for the BC Chamber AGM. Through the provincial organization we are able to lobby the provincial government for change or improvement to legislation that affects business. We will be supporting a resolution calling for the provincial government to advance implementation of regional Mobile Business License programs. The introduction of such programs will reduce the amount of time spent complying with government requirements, and more time to expand businesses and create jobs. We will also be working with the provincial organization to advocate for return of the business vote and reform of property taxes. We ask our members to contact any member of the Board, or Executive Director Lynn Whitehouse, with other issues or recommendations we can take to the BC Chamber for action at the provincial and federal government levels. Just a quick reminder that the Golf Committee is accepting registrations for the annual tournament to be held Thursday June 10 at Redwoods Golf Course. The event is over 50% sold, and there are some sponsorship opportunities still available. For more information or to register to play contact Jaclyn at the Chamber Office. Roberto Farina
